The Other Dimension – Time and Communication
“I am manipulating,” says the Alchemist, “No, you are dreaming,” says Novalis
“I am dreaming,” says Novalis. “No, you are manipulating”.
The reason for such a profound duality is that fire is within us and outside us,
invisible and dazzling, spirit and smoke.”
The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) will launch its Art Basel Miami Beach season with the presentation of The Other Dimension by Cuban-born, Miami artist Antuan Rodriguez. The Other Dimension addresses the constant human concern for universal communication through forms, symbols, and codes. Curated by Jorge Luis Gutierrez, The Other Dimension kicks off Art Basel Miami Beach Week with a special meet the artist reception on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The exhibition is then open to the public through January 22, 2017.
The Other Dimension reveals an artist who sees the universe from a range of diverse scientific, philosophical and cultural perspectives, all integrated into one single approach. The exhibition will be presented in seven differentiated rooms, symbolizing five narratives that are not perceptibly different from each other, although the extremes are quite distinct. Antuan’s original artistic layout among the exhibition spaces makes The Other Dimension a participatory show for all audiences
Antuan’s work is the result of creative processes and practices achieved by a shift in the point of view, the restoration of the meaning of local/global spaces, time and histories that lead to transient of geographies of collapsing boundaries. His work does not respond to symbols of particular geographies or nations; his concerns are universal.
As Jorge Luis Gutierrez, the exhibit curator states; “The culture and thought of well-being in ANTUAN’S work seem like a strategy with notions of secrets, esoteric knowledge and hidden meaning taken from history. His artwork and installations can integrate models and account for the effectiveness of symbolic healing in all of those referents that govern existence in and beyond art.”
His works based on principles of positive vibrations, searching visual narratives to become high enough to connect to the power of a universal spirit of intention, infinite time and codes of genuine global communication. Antuan combines with mastery healing and the invention of visual metaphors through his unique artistic proposal. As museum Interim-Director Natasha Colebrook-Williams states; “MOCA is equally proud of the international outlook it can present with support from regional artists, especially during the Art Basel Miami Beach season when the eyes of the global art world are focused here.”
The Other Dimension at MOCA North Miami follows the idea of the exhibition as a space of discovery, a continuum of stories presented by the artist. As such, Antuan’s artworks never seem to cease, as if there is always more to come. Artwork made from objects of use, fragments, parts and add-ons are characterized more by their components than as a methodological strategy. Antuan’s The Other Dimension project represents the best from Miami’s contemporary expression.
